How to choose a liquid nitrogen doser: 9 models compared

Equipment · 6 min read · Steiner Ukraine

A liquid nitrogen doser is chosen by four parameters: line speed, required dose accuracy, filling type (standard or aseptic) and container headspace. The Vacuum Barrier range has nine models — from MiniDose G3 at 200 cpm to NITRODOSE G3 Servodoser at 2000 cpm with ±1% dose weight accuracy.

How do the doser models differ?

How does line speed determine the model?

Speed is the first filter. Up to 200 cpm, MiniDose G3 is sufficient. Up to 450 cpm — EasyDose G3 Lite, EasyDose G3 and NITRODOSE G3. For lines up to 2000 cpm — EasyDose G3 Plus, NITRODOSE G3 Pro and Servodoser: their minimum dose duration of 5–6 ms allows each container to be dosed at high speed. Above the rated speed, G3 models switch to a continuous stream.

When is ±1% accuracy needed?

Dose accuracy determines the spread of pressure and residual oxygen from bottle to bottle. Most models dose within ±3% of dose weight, MiniDose within ±5%. NITRODOSE G3 Servodoser doses within ±1% and adjusts flow without a nozzle change — relevant for lightweight containers with minimal strength margin and for lines with frequent format changes.

What is 3-D Technology and who needs it?

3-D Technology (Directional Dose Dispersion) is an option for containers with shallow headspace: lightweight PET bottles and hot-fill products. It eliminates splash and holds target pressure within ±1% psi, including during sharp acceleration and deceleration of the line. Available for EasyDose G3, G3 Plus, NITRODOSE G3, G3 Pro and Servodoser.

Is CIP protection needed?

If the line goes through CIP cleaning, CIP protection closes the dosing head with an automatic nozzle. Moisture does not enter, the head does not freeze, and the nozzle withstands high-pressure wash-down and aggressive chemicals. Optional for EasyDose and NITRODOSE, standard on HS Aseptic.

What is the difference between EasyDose and NITRODOSE?

At the same speed and accuracy (±3%), NITRODOSE G3 and G3 Pro additionally monitor their operation continuously and signal to alarm outputs and a beacon. EasyDose is designed for simple installation and operation. Both series run on a Siemens S7-1200 or Allen Bradley ML1100 PLC with a 6″ touchscreen.

Which model for aseptic filling and large containers?

For aseptic lines — HS Aseptic: sterile dosing up to 900 cpm with automatic CIP protection and self-monitoring. For large containers — Linerter III: discrete dosing up to 500 cpm at moderate pressure to reduce oxygen in large-volume containers.

Model selection questions

Can I move to a faster model later?

This is decided during selection: if line speed is expected to grow, a model with reserve is chosen — for example EasyDose G3 Plus or NITRODOSE G3 Pro instead of 450 cpm models.

Which PLC do the dosers use?

Siemens S7-1200 on all models; EasyDose G3, G3 Plus, NITRODOSE, Servodoser and HS Aseptic are also available with Allen Bradley ML1100. Touchscreen — 4″ (MiniDose, EasyDose Lite, Linerter) or 6″.
